Options for NFTs
There is billions of dollars worth of intangible value locked in NFTs and it has been nearly unusable for NFT owners. With Nifty Options, that changes. The DeFi options market has sorely lacked the burgeoning asset class of NFTs, and we are excited to partner with a product that is pioneering this new space.
Introducing NiftyOptions (by Teller Org, Inc.) — the first on-chain NFT options trading protocol launching on Ethereum mainnet today! Current popular derivative options platforms don’t provide the ability to trade NFT options, so we are excited to see NiftyOptions innovate in this space — cue the revival of NFT/DeFi summer. As more value accrues to NFTs, we need more financial services built around this asset class.
The classic definition of an option is that one party has the right, but not the obligation, to exchange a certain asset with another party, at a specified price and date. Options in DeFi are currently used to hedge against market volatility, to take a view on the price of an asset, and lastly, to earn profits as an options seller.
NiftyOption contracts offer the right to sell a specific NFT at an agreed upon price and expiration date in the future. Hedge NFTs. Borrow against NFTs. Sell NFT options.
When a user creates an option contract, the option contract itself becomes minted as a new NFT. Once the option is filled, the NFT of the option contract itself can be used as collateral based on the value of ETH available in the option. Pretty meta. This guaranteed amount can then be used as collateral in other DeFi systems.
